The Delaware Board of Nursing makes continuing education a condition of licence renewal, so that nurses keep their knowledge and skills current across their career. The activities chosen must be relevant to safe practice, and the Board specifies certain mandatory topics.
The nursing standard of care also carries a professional duty to maintain competence and to be able to respond in an emergency, including initiating resuscitation. A recognized, documented certificate is the practical way to evidence that a nurse can act when it counts.
The Delaware Board of Nursing requires 30 contact hours per two years, including 3 hours on substance abuse. Up to 8 of those contact hours may come directly from BLS, ACLS, PALS or NRP courses.

The Board of Nursing requires nursing assistants to hold Healthcare-Provider-level CPR/BLS certification (adult/child/infant CPR, AED, two-person assist, bag-valve-mask). Where the role requires such a certificate alongside occupational training, a recognized standalone certificate with a practical component meets that requirement — and must be renewed and verifiable.
